War on Three Fronts
Eight Months later, the war for the daemon's nest still rages. With The Chaos Assault Finally Stemmed At Morrstadt By The Combined Forces Of Darius, Leopold Weiss And The Knights Panther, The Battle For The Lands Of Morr Descends Into A Series Of Hit And Run Encounters. The Empire Forces, Ragged And Disorganized After The Lightning Incursion Into Their Lands, Steadily Begin To Regain Their Discipline.
In A Shifting Line Stretching From Morrstadt Through The Frostwood To Osterzell, Along The River Staffel And Into The Foothills Of The Black Mountians, The Opposing Forces Feint And Probe. Numerous Skirmishes Break Out In The Barren Wilderlands Below The Blue Reach, Although The Forces Of Chaos Show Little Interest In This Area, Perhaps Due To The Fact No Souls Dwell In Its Spartan Emptiness.
In Morrstadt Itself, The People Hail Darius As Their Savior, And Weiss, Unable To Unseat The Wily Old Man, Grudgingly Gives The Town Over To His Keeping. With His Risen Patrolling The Outreaches Of The Town, Darius’ Men Begin Fortifying Morrstadt, Whilst Darius Himself Withdraws Into Solitude, In The Town’s Church “To Prepare Himself For The Fight Ahead”.
The Knight Panther Also Withdraw, To The Hilltop Town Of Bernloch And Fortify It As Well, Whilst Weiss Himself Raises His Banners In Osterzell, On The Far Side Of The Staffel Yet Still Within Striking Distance Of Both Avondorf And Hochsleben.
In The South, The People Of The Black Mountains, Hardy Sigmarite Folk All, Rally To The Call Of The Self-Styled People’s Prophet: A Wandering Warrior Priest By The Name Of Anselm Eichelberger. Taking It Upon Themselves To Shield The Rich Lowlands Of Wissenland From The Chaos Incursion, Eichelberger Amasses A Mighty Host Of Common Folk Behind Him, And Stymies The Khornate Forces In A Series Of Guerilla Actions In The Foothills Of The Mountains.
In The Raven’s Nest, Dark Energies Are Unleashed. The Sacred Stones Of The Keep Of Morr Are Warped And Twisted Into New Unnatural Architectures. Black Industry Churns In The Depths Of The Fortress, And Guttural Cries Of Beast And Daemon Rumble Non-Stop Form The Ground Beneath Its Walls. The Air Around The Fortress Grows Thick And Dark, And Monstrous Brass-Clad Shapes Are Glimpsed In The Haze. A Red-Limned Cloud Of Lightning-Streaked Ash Pours From Brass Towers That Sprout From Its Green-Hued Walls, As The Realm Of Chaos Protrudes Into The Real World.
In The Lands Around The Keep, Once Fertile Farms Are Laid Waste. The Hard But Fertile Soils Of The Region Turn Green And Grey. To The South, Roving Bands Of Khornate Bezerkers Prowl The Barren Countryside, Searching For Prey To Hunt. In Avondorf, Haakon D’Shar Establishes His Throne, And The Hordes Of Khorne Gravitate To It. Glowering Over The Failure Of Morrstadt, D’shar Eyes The Frostwood And The Creatures He Has Sent There, Awaiting The Chance To Strike Once Again.
Other Khornate Champions Also Prowls The Wilderness. A Massive Force Appears Across The River From The Town Of Jengen. But The Brass-Clad Hordes Do Not Cross, Even As The Engine Of Khorne, Thought Destroyed In The Fall Of Raven's Nest, Is Seen Amongst Their Number. Yet No Empire Scouts Survive Crossing The Waters Of The Staffel To Find Out What The Bezerkers Plot.
In Hochsleben, Mn’thrk’aia Holds Court. Suffering The Ascension Of Haakon D’shar As A Personal Challenge To Her Majesty, She Declares The Alliance Between Gods Ended, And All Contact Between The Two Immortals Ceases. Indeed, Skirmishes Between The Brazen Warriors Of Khorne And The Daemon Princess’ Forces Are Witnessed By Weiss’ Scouts Out Of Osterzell. All The Better, The Sigmarite Thinks, As It Gives Him Time To Regroup.
As The World Turns, And Morrslieb Waxes, The Power Of The Daemon’s Nest Rises . . .
