The Fall of Raven's Nest
Deployment
Opening Moves
The battle opened with the chaos maruauder units in the front Deployment Zone rushing forwards into the teeth of the enemy fire. as they advanced, they took severe casualties, the khornate horde reduced from 50 to less than 10 in a heartbeat. Behinds them, the fighting power of two giant blocks of warriors advanced, their tribesmen shielding them from the heaviest fire.
In the centre, hounds loped forward, trying to block the escape of the war altar with its preciuos cargo, while more marauders and ogres moved into position to assault the walls directly. On the far flank, the bloodletters trundled forward pushing the seige tower, whilst the fleshhounds and knights swung around the raven's nest to cut off support.
The empire, steady in their battleline, unleashed a massive salvo of fire. Their cannons, seeing the threat of the hellcannon, tried to blast the daemon engine from the hill but their shot smashed off the rocky outcrop. More fire obliterated the marauder horde and Decimated the other forward units.
In the centre, the war altar made its turn towards safety, as the protecting state troops moved forward to meet and defend it. The militia attacked and defeated the warhounds, leaving themselves open to the countercharge.
On the right flank, the paragon let loose one of his dark tricks, and nurgle came forth in the form of a bloating sickness that caused one of the Battle standard's unit to swell, rupture and explode! The carnage, unexpected and repugnant, caused havoc in the empire battleline. The swordsmen, shaken, fled down the line, taking the Battle standard with them. Artillry crews paled in fear and huddled behind their machines. Empire captains and sergeants were forced to attend to their men, as the whole empire line was disrupted.
Ahead of the chaos, the march of the warriors continued. Skullcrushers emerged from the chaos right flank, with marauder horsemen in the van ahead of them. On the other flank the knights and fleshhounds shook off the fire pouring from the Raven's nest and crossbows and began to circle the fortress. Pistoliers moved up to delay their advance, while Black steffan, Frederic the Warrior Priest and their retinue of knights moved up to deliver the countercharge.
To their right, the bloodletters, marauders and ogres prepared their charge into the fortress, whilst the daemon princess swept in behind her knights to try and overwhelm the Empire right. In the centre, the paragon thundered forward, the exalted of slaanesh at his side, and two giants flanking the pair: their target was the gate of the Raven's nest.

Midgame
With the main battlelines still closing in the open field, the assault on the fortress began.
The bloodletters charged their tower into the walls with an almighty crash. Fire poured into the daemons but could not stop their momentum. The marauders raised ladders and attacked the walls alongside the gate, whilst giants marched past them to line up the defenders on the far side.
Outside the walls, disaster struck. The pistoliers, avoiding the charge of the fleshhounds and drawing them into the path of the flagellants, withdrew past the waiting knights. Black steffan, ever the coward, took this as a sign that all was lost, and fled with his knights from the field! This left the flagellants as the only troops standing between the exposed right of the empire line and the chaos knights and warriors who now began marching towards the gap.
Outside the gates, the paragon unleashed the swift exalted champions of slaanseh. Lightning fast they swept past the gate in pursuit of the retreating war altar. The sturdy construction, rumbling towards safety had no chance of escaping the lithe demonic mounts the exalted used, and prepared to fight.
Still the empire gunfire rained destruction on the advancing foe. The Chaos battle standard fell under a hail of cannon fire. The hellcannon was struck but not destroyed, whilst the marauder horse were torn from the saddle by hellblaster and handgun shot.
The first wave of Bloodletters burst from the assault ramp and into the defenders of the Raven's Nest. They met resistance there they did not expect: Empire Greatsword champions stood alongside sturdy dwarf giant slayers, bioth of whom the Empire genreal had kept in the keep until just such a moment. The assault stalled against these stubborn foes. On the south wall, the marauder ladder assault also began, with heavy casualties on both sides, and The brave crossbows of the empire held the alluring slaaneshi sirens at bay, for now.

A ray of hope for the empire
Outside the gates, the first clash of troops in the field arrived as the Khornate Ogres slammed into their first target. Blades rose and fell, and the Swordsmen of the Empire bravely held, inflicting damage of the chaos brutes. Unable to hold his mighty steed back from battle, the paragon joined the combat as a fresh wave of marauders marched onto the field behind him. The swordsmen, shocked into submission by the size and power of the engine of khorne, were swiftly reaped by the chaos general, who bellowed in triumph as he powered forward.
However, the swordsmen had sold their lives to lead the beast into a trap! Surrounded now by outriders, handgunner, hellblaster and cannon, the master of the Raven's Nest gave his signal, and fire poured into the giant Daemon Machine. Great hunks of Brass machinery and hunks of pulsating muscle were blasted from the beast's flanks. The mighty head was riven by a great cannon ball, bringing it low, and the paragon himself was torn to pieces in a hail of righteous gunfire. A great cheer erupted from the empire host, and rays of sunlight punctured the gloom of battle and touched the banners of morr floating high in the tower of the Raven's nest. With the Chaos general gone and his standard downed it seemed as if the impossible might be achieved!

The Fall of Raven's Nest
With the Paragon destroyed, the chaos host threatened to break apart. The Daemon Princess winging her way down the left took control of the flanking force and they smashed into the wall of flagellants holding the empire line safe. In the centre, aroch redmane, exalted of khorne, took command: urging his warriors forward they surged toward the stout troops in black and white ahead Of them. Alongside, the chaos Knights charged and fell short, and were consumed in more gunfire.
Further afield, the Knights Panther held the advancing skullcrushers at bay by outflanking them, as the khornate brutes attempted to get to grips with the empire Infantry arrayed before them.
In the Raven's nest, the wave of bloodletters finally broke through the resistance of the Greatsword and Dwarf champions, and burst into the keep. Men fled from their advance, but there was little space to run. Over the opposite walls, two mighty chaos giants: one a towering beast of muscle and iron with a bulls head and the other a writhing mass of heaving tentacles; slammed into the ramparts, which were not Built high enough to stop the massive creatures. Men were swept from the wall. The cannon, which had so recently tasted triumph, was ripped from its housing and swung into the defenders. As Slaaneshi Marauders Swept over the wall and into the courtyard, The Raven's keep began to burn.

Chaos Ascendant
With a Terrifying fury, Redmane and his warrior horde smashed into the Empire line. Exacting vengeance for their fallen general, the beserks slew the empire horde almost to a man in a single devastating combat. Unbelievably, the empire survivors held. On the far flank, the flagellants were able to wipe out the fleshhounds, but then were hit in the flank by the second khonnate warrior block, taking appalling casualties.
Behind Redmane, the Exalted Champion destroyed the War altar: its precious cargo would never escape the field. On the opposite flank, the knights charged into the skullcrushers to try and stop them, even as the slaaneshi warriors found a target. With all warrior blocks now reaping their grim harvest, things looked grim for the empire.
To prolong their fight, the empire spears withdrew, and the remaining regiments began to form up around their artillery, ready to resist a final charge from all sides.

Endgame
As the regiments of the empire formed up for the last defense, their doom swept onto the field on dark wings. An avenging Daemon prince of khorne slammed from the skies and into the heart of the Empire ranks. The men of the empire fought bravely, but the tide of destruction was upon them. Redmane and his beserks tore through the remaining swordsmen and searched for another target, finding the Remaining empire units edging away from them.
The Panther pikemen, valiantly fending off and slaying the Chaos Giants had no answer for the fury that descended on them, and though they fought to the last man, their fate was sealed. Around the BSB more bloodshed reigned: the khorne warriors, having defeated and slain the remaining flagellants now arrived to pincer the remaining forces, and the BSB's unit was hit from two sides.
The hellblaster's final act was to kill the khornate daemon prince in the midst of the empire forces, but the slaaneshi exalted and Daemon Princess finally reached the massed artillery and butchered it wholesale. With nowhere to run, and the skullcrushers sweeping in from the far flank, the slaughter was complete. No empire soldier lived. The Raven's nest burned, with nought but daemons within its walls. Chaos roamed free in the lands of morr.
Morr's heartland had truly become the daemon's nest.
