CROSSING THE LINE
Desperate Times . . .
Deployment and Opening Moves
The Empire forces spread across their line of defense, with the Militia and Greatswords with captain Sigimund and the BSB holding the centre with the hellblaster. On the left flank sat the duellists and cannon, the latter being screened by the archers. The Empire refused the right flank, leaving the buildings to protect it with the support of the knight regiment at the rear.
Facing them, the chaos line faced off against the empire centre with a hordfe of khornate marauders bolstered with two exalted champions and a chaos sorcerer. To their right, facing the militia, a unit of forsaken supported by a chariot and further afield the skullcrushers deployed with the aim of sweeping around the buildings and into the empire rear. On the Chaos left facing the duellists and cannon, A unit khornate ogres behind chaos hounds and to the far right marauder horsemen.
Behind the empire, darius and his risen came. Forming a line from the right to the left, a large unit Of spear led by two risen heroes, risen archers darius himself, and then a large unit of risen duellists supported by a detachment of risen militia.
Swiftly the chaos horde swept forward, with the forsaken Barreling towards the militia horde, and the hounds leaping right into the front of the greatswords. The chaos sorcerer summoned all his power and obliterated the archer screen completely with a storm of fireballs, but lost control of the spell and wounded himself in the flames.
Perhaps fearing the skeletal warriors approaching his back, Sigimund ordered the charge, and both the militia and the greatswords abandoned their defensive position and assaulted the chaos units before them. While the greatswords easily accounted for the hounds, their charge petered out in the face of the marauder horde. to their right, the militia hit the forsaken front on, but the beserk mutants not only tore them apart, but lost only a single warrior as their flesh knitted all wounds together. As the survivors fled backl towards the defensive barriers, the forsaken gleefully cut them down and took the line themselves.
the marauders lost no time charging the greatswords, whilst the ogres alongside them, having lost only a single warrior to cannon fire, charged into the duellists, hoping to overwhelm their numbers with brute force. stoically, both empire units held, and with battle only just beginning, the generals met in single combat.
sigimund, deflecting a blow from the lightning fast exalted, felt the protection of sigmar upon him as the chaos warrior's blow failed to wound him. smashing the exalted's shield aside, he landed a blow that brought the damned champion to his knees. at his back, the greatswords held their own against the marauders, and pushed hard into their foe, and with the duellists resisting the ogre charge to their left, the battle suddenly hung in the balance.

midgame
as the forsaken pushed forward, the ogres strength was bolstered by the sorcerer, who again channeled all his power into the spell and was consumed in a tower of flame. the ogres augmented strength began to tell on the duellists, whose numbers dwindled relentlessly.
slowly, the exalted champion fought his way to his feet, and sigimund realised his mistake leaving the cover of their bastion. unable to deflect the chaos exalted's fury, he fell under a rain of savage blows, leaving the greatswords exposed. they fought, but under the horde of khornate tribesmen, they died to man.
as the line of risen neared, the empire line collapsed completely, as the swift moving horsemen mopped up the artillery on one side and the skullcrushers resisted the charge of the knights and broke them with their daemonic fury.

Endgame
With the Empire forces all but destroyed, darius threw his risen into the Chaos forces, with the duellists absorbing the charge of the Ogres, who were unable to overcome the power of the shroud. As the ogres were destroyed, darius spied the skullcrushers sweeping around the buildings and into the flank. realising his avenue of excape was about to be cut, and having seen the power of the shroud in action, darius withdrew, as the marauder horsemen prepared to hunt him down.
With the source of their power removed, the risen quickly succumbed to the chaos horde, who continued their relentless plunge into the heartland of the empire . . .
